If you’re a DIYer who has never made over a piece of furniture, stick around because this is for you. I’ve used Beyond Paint All-in-One paint before, and I’m at it again. It really is the perfect paint for furniture painting for beginners. No priming or sealing is necessary. Just a couple coats of paint and you’re done with your one day makeover!

What’s even more exciting about this project is that I’ll be making over a piece of furniture that I got for FREE! Thanks to my friend Meggie who found this buffet on her neighborhood website. Free is our favorite.

Before jumping into this quick flip, let’s take a look at the piece that I started with. I can’t wait to show you how it turns out.

All-in-One Paint: Step by Step Tutorial

  1. Remove hardware & doors or drawers

Whether you want to keep your hardware or replace it, make sure to remove it and store it in plastic baggies so that you don’t lose any pieces. The hardware on my piece is a little outdated, so I will be replacing it with some more modern hardware. And because the hardware holes are three inches apart, it’s going to be really easy to find a replacement for them.

In addition to removing the hardware, I like to remove the drawers and, in this case, the doors. If you need to unscrew the hinges for doors as I did, be sure to label them so you know exactly where it belongs when reassembling.

2. Clean with Simple Green

The next important step in prepping for your all-in-one paint is to clean your piece, and Beyond Paint recommends using Simple Green. This is an all-purpose degreaser, and it’s going to remove any dirt and grime from your piece.

If you suspect that your piece has been waxed a lot with Pledge or other oily substances, you may want to rinse it with some vinegar and water or use some mineral spirits just to break down all of that wax.

After cleaning, give it a rinse with some clean water.

3. Make any repairs necessary

This buffet was actually in really good shape. The only repair I had to do with fill in the tiny pinholes from the decorative pulls on the doors. So if you have nicks and dings, or any other repair, this is the time to get it done.

If you do have to make repairs, wait for the filler to dry and then sand it back with some 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it out. Always wipe with a lint-free cloth afterward to get off the dust from the sanding.

4. Tape off any sections necessary

This is another optional step based on your piece and your desired outcome. I decided to tape off the base on the inside because it was in good shape, so I didn’t paint that portion.

I also taped off the empty spaces where the hinges were so that they wouldn’t get gunked up with paint.

5. Time to paint with Beyond Paint All-in-One Paint!

I grabbed my Beyond Paint Tool Kit which comes with two rollers, a chip brush, and a brochure on the paint and how to use it.  It also comes with a 400 grit sandpaper and a container to pour your paint in.

As you may know already, I like to line my paint tray with foil for easy cleanup, but this does clean up with soap and water if you want to skip the foil.

So the paint color I chose today is Nantucket. It's a beautiful sea glass/green/blue color, and I’m so excited to be using this one because my last couple of Beyond Paint projects have been more neutral. This one is going to be a little more fun and give me some coastal glam vibes.

Beyond Paint is a really thick consistency, almost like pudding, so be aware of that. No need to sire or shake it… it’s just ready to go when you are!

Unless you have a very flat piece, you’ll most likely be using both the chip brush and the roller for this all-in-one paint. I started off with my chip brush to get into the details. And when you do this, you’re going to paint with a stippling motion rather than a brush stroke. After you get into the details, then you can grab the roller and roll on all of the flat surfaces to smooth it all out.

Keep in mind, it’s going to have a bit of texture, and that’s ok. It will flatten a bit as it dries.

Again, what’s so great about this All-in-One Beyond Paint is that it’s so easy for beginners or if you are look for a one day makeover option. No stripping, no priming, and it’s self-sealing!

It actually works on metal, laminate, plastic glass, linoleum, tile, marble concrete, or even previously painted surfaces, so it has a really good adhesion. It's really great for kitchen cabinets or vanities, and they have a whole kit where you can do countertops and give them a whole new look too.

6. Let dry and then paint a second coat

Beyond paint takes two to four hours to dry. My pieces were sitting in my air-conditioned studio, so I knew they would be dry in about two hours.  If you want to play it safe, you can wait the full four hours and still get this makeover done in one day.

As I was getting started on my second coat, I noticed a few globs here and there that I had missed with the roller, so I took the 400 sandpaper from the kit to smooth those out. Just makes sure to wipe back any of that dust before starting with your next coat.

I used the same technique as the first coat, so I got it done pretty quickly!

Finishing touches

Almost done! Now for the finishing touches. The first thing I did was peel off my tape from the base. I let the whole piece sit for a couple of hours before I pieced it all back together. If you aren’t in a hurry, you can definitely wait a couple of days to reassemble. Honestly, the longer you wait the better.

Next is getting the hardware and doors back on the buffet. I ended up picking out some champagne bronze, classic-looking hardware. The knobs and the pulls are going to coordinate with this new color really nicely.
I thought I was going to get away with the original hinges, but they ended up looking pretty yellow next to the new hardware. To fix this, I decided to paint them with acrylic metallic paint from the craft store (DecoArt Extreme Sheen Campagne Gold). It’s a champagne bronze, so it will help tone down that goldish color.

I sanded the hinges to help the paint stick. I didn’t have to cake on the paint; I just feathered it one to help mellow it out.

Turned out perfectly!

All-in-One Paint Reveal Beyond Paint ONE DAY MAKEOVER

Another one day makeover with Beyond Paint All-in-One Paint! Before the reveal, I just wanted to let you know how much paint I used in this project if it helps you decide how much you need for yours. I have the quart size which is 32 ounces. I think I would have gotten away with a pint, but it’s never a bad thing to have extra paint.

I used about 8 ounces on the first coat and about 6 ounces on the second one. Hopefully, that helps!

Ok, so now for the reveal! I just love these coastal vibes. This color feels so classic but has some pop at the same time.

Tell me what you think of this one day makeover in the comments, and remember, you can always go watch this tutorial over on YouTube as well!
