Decking Out the Mantle

To add a festive touch, I hung antique-style bells from Amazon and tied a big velvet bow over one corner using ribbon I also sourced from Amazon. Since I don’t have an outlet nearby, I incorporated battery-operated fairy lights into the garland, adding a warm and cozy glow. Stockings from Target, brass candlesticks, and my favorite Christmas accents complete the look.

DIY Christmas Art

Next, I tackled the empty space above my mantle with a fun DIY project. I thrifted a large canvas for $20—probably overpriced, but it was still a steal compared to building one myself. Inspired by a hack I saw last year, I transformed a Christmas-themed shower curtain into custom artwork. After priming the canvas to cover the previous design, I stretched and stapled the shower curtain onto the frame.

The result? A stunning piece of art that cost less than $40! I love how it ties the mantle together and creates a focal point. Plus, it’s easy to swap out the shower curtain for different seasons, making it a versatile and budget-friendly decor solution.

Styling My New Mirror

I couldn’t resist decorating the arched mirror I scored during the Home Depot fall sale. Using another affordable garland from Amazon and a clear Command hook for invisibility, I draped the greenery beautifully over the mirror. To top it off, I tied a dark chocolate brown velvet bow for a simple yet elegant finish.

The Star of the Show: My Christmas Tree

Finally, it was time to put up my tree! I invested in a pre-lit 9-foot tree from Costco a couple of years ago, and it’s been worth every penny. With 2,700 LED lights, realistic branches, and easy-connect technology, this tree is as convenient as it is gorgeous.

I love this tree for many reasons: the abundance of twinkle lights, the realistic look of the branches, and most of all that it is so full and not skimpy. It comes with a remote control, that allows you to have white lights or color, and you can even alternate between the two.

My tree features a neutral color scheme that I’ve been curating for years, using decorations I’ve collected and reused. It fits the aesthetic of my home perfectly and brings me so much joy. While my kids have their own trees upstairs with colorful, whimsical decorations, my tree is all about subtle elegance.

To tie the living room and kitchen together, I added some artificial wreaths with a coordinating velvet bow to the back of each of my counter stools . I attached them using both command hooks and ornament hooks. I love the fun and unexpected touch on the back of these chairs, and it was the perfect way to bring the living room decor into the kitchen.
