Today, I'm thrilled to dive into the latest release from Silk, their National Parks collection. I am going to swatch the colors for you and then choose one of them to give this old desk a stunning makeover.

Dixie Belle Silk: National Parks Collection

If you have watched my channel for any length of time, you would know my love for Dixie Belle Silk Paint. This is an all in one paint that requires no primer or topcoat- because it is all built into the paint. This makes for a quick and simplified (hopefully!) furniture makeover. Dixie Belle Silk's National Parks collection is a tribute to the earthy tones found in our natural landscapes. As I began swatching the paint colors, I immediately noticed the richness of each shade. From Glacier, a warm gray reminiscent of rocky outcrops, to Sequoia, a nostalgic hue that takes me back to '80s kitchen appliances, each color tells a beautiful story.

Paint colors often look completely different when they are out of the can and dried so I wanted to swatch all of the colors to get a real idea of what they would look like on a piece. I used an old piece of wood and prepped it like I would a furniture piece to get a real idea of what they would look like. Each color was stunning in its own way!

The Furniture Flip Begins

With my Acadia in hand, I began transforming my son’s old desk. First I removed the old hardware- I decided to go with a pop of gold to go with the green so these black knobs had to go.

Next, I cleaned the desk with my Dixie Belle White Lightning and then followed by wiping it back with clean water to get rid of any dirt and grime that had accumulated on the piece.

I then used fine sandpaper to scuff sand the piece and wiped away the dust with a tack cloth. I decided to not tape the desk this time, instead opting to free hand paint using my Dixie Belle Angled Mini synthetic paint brush. One of the things I love most about Silk paint is its built-in primer and top coat, making the process a breeze. The smooth application and quick drying time meant I was able to see results in no time.

Dixie Belle Silk gives great coverage, but after the first coat I could still see a little of the old grey color peeking through. I went ahead and applied a second coat to achieve the coverage I was going for.

Adding the Final Touches

For a little pop of pattern in the drawers, I decided to line them with some wallpaper I had laying around. I measured and cut it to size and decided to apply it to the drawers with double sided tape.

I opted for brass hardware to complement the rich green- gold and green is a color combo I will never get tired of! This also adds a little modern touch to the desk and elevates the style.

The Big Reveal

After letting everything dry overnight, it was time for the big reveal. The desk had undergone a remarkable transformation, with Acadia breathing new life into the once drab piece. The addition of wallpaper in the drawers and brass hardware completed the look.

The Silk National Parks collection offers a range of earthy tones that bring the beauty of nature into any space. Whether you're swatching colors or embarking on a furniture flip, these paints make the process enjoyable and rewarding.

I hope this journey through Silk's National Parks collection has inspired you to get creative with color. Which shade are you most excited to try? If you would like to see all the swatches you can watch my video here.

Thanks for joining me on this adventure, and until next time, happy painting!
