I've had this incredibly boring corner in my bedroom forever. You know, the kind of corner where all the random stuff piles up because I don't feel like putting it away? Yeah, that one. But today, I decided enough was enough. It was time to turn this sad little spot into a cozy reading nook where I can escape for some quiet time. And the best part? I'm doing this makeover the easy and affordable way—shopping at Walmart!

Why Walmart?

Over the past couple of years, I've become a huge fan of Walmart's Better Homes and Gardens line. I was lucky enough to attend their Style Maker event in New York last year, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for the intentionality behind this line. They're so on top of the trends, offering items that look high-end and luxurious but at prices that don't break the bank.

The Plan for My Cozy Corner Makeover

I've been dreaming of adding a chair to this space forever, but for some reason, it took me this long to make it happen. No DIYs or thrifting for this makeover—I wanted to keep it simple. As I browsed Walmart’s website, I spotted a chair I'd had my eye on forever. The Mira cream-colored boucle chair went on sale recently, and I took it as a sign that it was finally time to buy it. While I was at it, I also snagged a cane side table that was on deal too. And because I'm a Walmart Plus member, everything shipped to my house for free in under two days. Win-win!

Clearing Out the Clutter

With my new furniture on the way, it was time to tackle the mess. First things first, I had to get rid of a random nightstand that had somehow made its way into the corner. Sometimes, furniture just ends up in odd places after staging, and this nightstand had overstayed its welcome. So, I moved it out to the garage, listed it for sale, and got to work on creating my new nook.

Assembling the Furniture

Now, here's the thing about buying affordable furniture: nine times out of ten, you have to assemble it yourself. But I actually enjoy putting furniture together—it's like Legos for adults! The cane side table I bought also comes in black, but I chose the honey wood color. I love the contrast against the cane detailing. The assembly was a bit tricky, so here's my best tip: don't tighten all the screws right away. Just tighten them a little bit at first, and then once everything is in place, go back and tighten them fully.

Unboxing the Chair

After assembling the table, it was time to unbox the chair. Lucky for me, the chair comes fully assembled—hallelujah! I went with the cream boucle finish, which is a fancy word for "fuzzy and soft" with a sherpa-like look. If that's not your thing, they also offer it in a lovely linen color and even a green velvet option if you're looking for something a little bolder. I am so impressed with the quality and comfort of this chair. Its the perfect level of coziness for my reading nook.

Final Touches: Styling the Space

With everything unboxed, it was time to style my new reading nook. I started by setting up the side table and adding some decor accents to really give this space the cozy vibes I was going for.

To give the space that cozy feel, I added my favorite candle scent—cashmere and teak—which has a wooden wick that crackles when you light it. I love mixing style with function, so I used the second shelf of the cane table to store whatever book I'm currently reading.

I love this lamp so much I now have two! It is very affordable but looks high end. It’s a versatile lamp that is perfect for a reading nook, an entry way, or a nightstand. I set this lamp on my cane side table next to the candle. For the final touch, I opted for some faux greenery to finish off the look and add a pop of green.

The Finished Look

Now, I have a cozy corner where I can start my mornings peacefully before the kids wake up and the day gets hectic. I managed to pull off this whole makeover for under $350! I love how the side table’s warm honey finish brings a cozy feel to the space, and the multiple textures add depth. And don't get me started on the —it's unbelievably comfortable! My kids love it too, and they always try to steal it for themselves.

If you’re looking for an affordable way to spruce up a boring corner in your home, I highly recommend checking out Walmart's Better Homes and Gardens line. They've got great options that won’t break the bank, and their items are both stylish and functional.

I hope you found this transformation inspiring and helpful. Remember, it doesn’t take much to create a little haven in your home. Happy decorating!
